80, p = 0.017; ρ = -0.77, p = 0.027; and ρ = -0.80, p = 0.017, respectively). Measuring morning HRV indices may be effective for objectively evaluating changes in the fatigue status of elite athletes during a precompetition period.Jellies for oral administration have been suggested as alternative dosage forms to conventional tablets for improved palatability and compliances for pediatric and geriatric patients. To evaluate the effect of jelly formulation on the bioavailability of cold medicines, two types of jellies were prepared for a fixed-dose combination of acetaminophen (AAP), chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DMH), and dl-methylephedrine hydrochloride (MEH). Jelly-S and Jelly-H were fabricated using carrageenan and locust bean gum in the absence and presence of xanthan gum, respectively. In vitro dissolution and in vivo absorption of the four drugs in the jellies were compared with other conventional formulations, a syrup and two types of immediate-release (IR) tablets with different hardness, Tablet-S (15 kPa) and Tablet-H (20 kPa). All the formulations exhibited more than 80% dissolution rate within 2 h even though the syrup, Jelly-S, and Tablet-S showed higher 30-min dissolution compared to Jelly-H and Tablet-H. The dissolution rates from the jellies decreased with increasing pH, which resulted in the slowest dissolution in pH 6.8 compared to the syrup and IR tablets. When administered orally to beagle dogs, all five formulations were determined not to be bioequivalent. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ms023.html However, Jelly-S and Jelly-H showed 0.82-1.05 of the geometric mean ratios (GMRs) of AUC0-t for all four drugs compared to the syrup suggesting comparable absorption. In two IR tablets, GMRs of AUC0-t were in a range of 0.55-0.95 indicating a tendency of lower absorption than the syrup and jellies. In conclusion, jelly can be a patient-centered formulation with comparable bioavailability to syrup.Keratinocyte migration is initiated toward the wound skin barrier as a crucial process in wound healing. However, the migratory machinery used by keratinocytes is relatively unknown. Histamine signaling, including an increase in the Ca2+ signal, mediated the enhanced protein expression and chloride/bicarbonate exchange activity of anion exchanger AE2 in keratinocytes. In this study, we applied an agarose spot assay to induce a vectorial motion. The vectorial stimulation of the histamine-containing agarose spot enhanced the HaCaT keratinocyte migration, compared to non-directional stimulation. AE2 is associated with the vectorial movement of HaCaT keratinocytes. Enhanced expression of AE2 was mainly associated with an increase in Ca2+ and was abolished by the treatment with the Ca2+ chelating agent BAPTA-AM. These findings revealed that the directionality of Ca2+-exerted stimulation can play a prominent role in facilitating migration through the involvement of AE2 as a migratory machinery in HaCaT keratinocytes.Autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD) and neuromuscular disorders can affect a number of organs [...].Background and objectives The study assesses quality of life (QoL) in patients who underwent thyroidectomy compared to the general population. Materials and Methods QoL data from post-thyroidectomy patients and individuals with no subjective health concerns, who had attended a routine health screening visit, were evaluated. QoL was assessed using the modified version of Korean Short Form 12 questionnaire (SF-12). Patients and controls were matched using the propensity score approach and a ratio of 14. Results Data from a total of 105 patients and 420 controls were analyzed. For five SF-12 items, lower QoL was found in patients (p 1-year post-surgery.In this study, the effect of filter schemes on several low-contrast materials was compared using standard and ultra-high-resolution (UHR) cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. The performance of the UHR-CBCT was quantified by measuring the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the noise power spectrum (NPS). The MTF was measured at the radial location around the cylindrical phantom, whereas the NPS was measured in the eight different homogeneous regions of interest. Six different filter schemes were designed and implemented in the CT sinogram from each imaging configuration. The experimental results indicated that the filter with smaller smoothing window preserved the MTF up to the highest spatial frequency, but larger NPS. In addition, the UHR imaging protocol provided 1.77 times better spatial resolution than the standard acquisition by comparing the specific spatial frequency (f50) under the same conditions. The f50s with the flat-top window in UHR mode was 1.86, 0.94, 2.52, 2.05, and 1.86 lp/mm for Polyethylene (Material 1, M1), Polystyrene (M2), Nylon (M3), Acrylic (M4), and Polycarbonate (M5), respectively. The smoothing window in the UHR protocol showed a clearer performance in the MTF according to the low-contrast objects, showing agreement with the relative contrast of materials in order of M3, M4, M1, M5, and M2. In conclusion, although the UHR-CBCT showed the disadvantages of acquisition time and radiation dose, it could provide greater spatial resolution with smaller noise property compared to standard imaging; moreover, the optimal window function should be considered in advance for the best UHR performance. This study analyzed the status and trends of transfusion and its associated factors among liver and kidney transplantation recipients.
A total of 10,858 and 16,191 naïve liver or kidney transplantation recipients from 2008 to 2017 were identified through the National Health Insurance Service database. The prescription code for transfusion and the presence, number, and amount of each type of transfusion were noted. The odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were determined to identify significant differences in transfusion and blood components by liver and kidney transplantation recipient characteristics.
In this study, 96.4% of liver recipients and 59.7% of kidney recipients received transfusions related to the transplantation operation, mostly platelet and fresh frozen plasma. Higher perioperative transfusion in women and declining transfusion rates from 2008 to 2017 were observed in both liver and kidney recipients. In liver recipients, the transfusion rate in those who received organs from deceased donors was much higher than that in those who received organs from living donors; however, the mortality rate according to transfusion was higher only in recipients of deceased donor organs.
